Metropolitan DC area consists of Northern Virginia with Maryland and the District of Columbia as its borders. The three states are connected by various interstates such as:
- 66 -- Traverses 75 miles from the Northern Shenandoah Valley to the Washington, D.C. suburbs in Northern Virginia.
- 95 -- Traverses more than 170 miles from the North Carolina State Line to Washington D.C. and Maryland.
- 395 -- About 10 miles long, Interstate 395 runs from the I-95/I-495 interchange in Fairfax County through the cities of Alexandria and Arlington to the Washington, D.C. line.
- 495 -- Part of the Capital Beltway around Washington, D.C., Interstate 495 in Virginia runs 22 miles from the Washington, D.C. line in Alexandria to the Maryland border near Bethesda.
Plan your trip accordingly, ask the locals. The Metro area is notorious for its traffic congestion. If possible, "park and ride" or "kiss and ride". The Subway and Bus system is clean, safe and reliable. Here is the Metro Rail System Map.
